New project at home

Wow, I've been so completely lax on my posting! Jan. 20th was apparently my last post. I'll chalk it up to not feeling too well, due to morning sickness. Yep, that's right! I'm going to be a mama. I'm planning to start a separate blog for mama/baby stuff, so as not to bore the handful people who read the stuff they came to this blog to read. Today, I'm just going to post on our living/office area, and ask for suggestions/opinions.

Currently, our one-bedroom apartment is going to have to do, even after baby comes (for a little while). We've done a little rearranging to the bedroom, and it is ready for baby - for the most part; We just need to move a piece of furniture from the living room to the bedroom to serve for baby stuff storage, and we need to pick up a rocking chair (yes, need).

Our living room serves a couple purposes, one of which is not being adequately met for the husband. He likes to tinker around with projects, mostly having to do with electronics. How the space is currently divided, he feels unable to do that, and usually just ends up sitting in front his computer all night instead. So, he needs an inspiring, efficient space. And I'll just have to deal with the fact that some of his crap will be out for the world to see most of the time. Not that anyone ever comes over, but still. We (well, he) also came to the realization that we don't really lounge in the 'lounge' area of the room, where a love seat, two chairs and a record player reside. So, we need to move some things around and see what we think.

I have this idea of a great work area, complete with perfectly organized tools and bits and baubles. But that's the designer in me. Still, I think the space can be minimalist and functional, but warm at the same time. It's time to put the serious designer cap on, but also to allow the engineer to have his say in some things. Here are "before" pictures, looking either toward or into office area. I'll be sure and post "after" pictures as well.
